Water Cooled Shroud Analysis
Water cooled shroud is a safety component of the mercury target module at SNS.  It is a double wall vessel that encloses the
mercury target for providing leak containment in case of a mercury target boundary breach.

Water cooled shroud was modeled and analyzed for stress (ASME Code Calculation) and deflection for normal and off-normal
operating conditions.  Pro/Engineer was used for 3D solid modeling, PATRAN was used for finite element model (FEM)
generation, and ABAQUS Standard code was used for the finite element analysis (FEA).
Mercury Target Window Analysis
Mercury target window is subjected to intense heat generation during operation due to interaction with proton beam.

The front section of the mercury target including the window section was modeled and analyzed for stress (ASME Code
Calculation), deflection and heat transfer for normal and off-normal operating conditions.  Pro/Engineer was used for 3D solid
modeling, PATRAN was used for finite element model (FEM) generation, and ABAQUS Standard code was used for the finite
element analysis (FEA).
Target Carriage Analysis
Target Carriage used for transporting the mercury target between the maintenance and the operational positions while
providing required shielding.  The carriage is mainly made of steel which are subjected to volumetric heating during operation.  
It is also required withstand the PC-2 class seismic event.

The entire carriage asembly was modeled and analyzed for stress, deflection and heat transfer for normal and off-normal
operating conditions.  Pro/Engineer was used for 3D solid modeling, PATRAN was used for finite element model (FEM)
generation, and ABAQUS Standard code was used for the finite element analysis (FEA).
