DESIGN EXAMPLES
Mercury Target
The first example shown below is the mercury target module assembly for Spallation Neutron Source currently being
constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.  It consists of numerous components that are individually
machined and welded/assembled together while maintaining the design intent within specific requirements.  Pro/Engineer 3D
modeling software was utilized to construct the complex 3D solid models.

The bottom picture was included to provide comparison between the 3D solid models and the actual target module that is
currently installed at SNS site.

Instrument Beam Line
The second example shown below is one of the instrument beam lines at Spallation Neutron Source currently being
constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.  An instrument beam line is a system of components that are
assembled within specific requirements to function as a high precision instrument.  Pro/Engineer 3D modeling software was
utilized to construct and assemble the complex 3D solid models to minimize potential problems prior to manufacturing and
installing the actual components.
